What are three things that you need to bring to your initial probate consultation?
I wanted to just give you three things that if you can bring these to your consultation; it’ll really help you get the most out of them.
First, we need you to bring the basic information: we need to know who passed away, their full legal name, the date and location of where they passed away and where they lived. And then also the names of any heirs or beneficiaries. But let us know who’s going to be involved in this estate.
Second thing you need is a copy of the will if there is one, and you may not have it yet, and that’s okay. If not, we need the death certificate if you have it. Things that will help also include bank statements that showed the value of bank accounts as of the date of death.
Now, if you’re not the executor, if you haven’t started this process, you may not have that information yet. If you do not, vehicle titles show the named owner of the vehicles, and the funeral bill—paid or unpaid.
And then lastly, bring us a list of your questions. It is so helpful to us when we’re meeting with somebody if you can send those questions in advance via email or even by taking a photo with your phone. That way we know exactly what you’re coming in to ask, or if you have any specific questions that pertain to you.
Now, we know what the usual questions are that folks have about the probate process. But if there’s anything we can answer specifically to your case, and let us know in advance.
If it requires any research, frequently, we will be able to look that up before you come in, just to make sure that we have the latest answer at our fingertips.
We hope this has been helpful. As always, like and subscribe. Follow us on YouTube for more helpful legal tips.
